Job Title: Lead Power BI UI Specialist

Make a genuinely complex dataset intuitive. Tokenomics output carries a dozen or more dimensions and several audiences who each need a different slice of it. Without deliberate design, that becomes a report estate people avoid. This role owns the overall look and feel of the Power BI app, its information architecture, navigation and filtering strategy, and the visualization choices that make the numbers legible.  

The role also has a consolidation job. Several competing Power BI applications already exist across the reporting estate. An early deliverable is an assessment of those and a recommended path to merge them into a single go-forward app, so the design work builds toward one destination rather than adding a sixth competitor.  

This is a design authority role. The Power BI developers implement; this role decides what good looks like and holds the estate to it. It is also the one role here that is not backfilling existing capacity — the work is currently being absorbed by the program technical lead alongside their own responsibilities, which is not sustainable.  

Key responsibilities  

• Review the competing Power BI applications already in use across the reporting estate, assess where they overlap and diverge, and recommend a path to consolidate them into a single go-forward app — what migrates, what retires, and in what order.  
• Design the overall Power BI app structure: workspace and app organization, audiences, page hierarchy and how a user moves between summary, comparison and detail.  
• Define the information architecture for a high-dimensional dataset, so publisher, model, token type, tier, application, division, user, environment, audience and attribution quality are reachable without overwhelming the landing view.  
• Design for five distinct personas — executive sponsor, divisional finance lead, people leader, application owner and FinOps analyst — establishing what each sees first and what they can reach.  
• Set the filtering and navigation strategy: slicer placement and hierarchy, sync behavior across pages, field parameters for user-selectable dimensions and measures, bookmarks, drillthrough paths and breadcrumbs.  
• Provide visualization guidance — which chart answers which question, how to show a distribution across attribution quality levels, how to present a coverage cascade, how to show a burn-down of ambiguous cost — and rule out chart choices that mislead.  

Design how uncertainty is communicated. Some figures are provisional pending disaggregation and some are modeled rather than measured; the interface must convey that without a footnote nobody reads.  

• Produce and maintain the Power BI theme, layout grid, typography and color usage, aligned to S&P Global brand standards.  
• Establish design patterns and a component library so new pages are consistent by default rather than by review, and hand that standard to the technical lead and developers to sustain after the engagement.  
• Run usability sessions with real users from each persona and iterate on the evidence.  
• Where the engagement extends: build reports directly against the established design system.  

Essential skills and experience  

• Deep, hands-on knowledge of Power BI’s design capabilities and constraints: bookmarks, drillthrough, field parameters, buttons and navigation, page and report tooltips, custom JSON themes, conditional formatting, and the practical limits of each.  
• Strong information architecture and interaction design for data-dense enterprise applications — not marketing or consumer product design.  
• Data visualization judgment grounded in practice: able to explain why a particular chart is the wrong answer to a particular question, and to hold that line with stakeholders who asked for it.  
• Able to produce design artifacts developers can build from — wireframes, page specifications, theme files — and to work in a design tool such as Figma alongside Power BI itself.  
• Able to leave behind a documented standard others can apply without them.  

Desirable — and materially so  

• Power BI report development capability alongside design. A candidate who can both set the standard and build to it can be retained for the full term and adds delivery capacity once the design foundation is established. This is the difference between a front-loaded engagement and a full-term one.  
• Prior work on financial, cost or FinOps reporting interfaces.  
• Experience designing role-differentiated views where the same data is presented differently by audience.
