Job Title: Sr. Power BI Developer  

Location: Remote (EST Hours)

Duration: 3+ months

Purpose  

Build the reporting through which the program is experienced. Every workstream's output — cost, attribution, coverage, controls, savings, unit economics — reaches its audience through Power BI, and one developer cannot cover the report estate the backlog implies. This role takes an agreed share of that estate and delivers it to the standards the team already uses.  

Key responsibilities  

• Build Power BI semantic models over Databricks gold datasets, choosing appropriately between Direct Lake, Import and DirectQuery and justifying the trade-off.  
• Develop assigned reports from the core set: showback by application and division; a consolidated view spanning hyperscaler, end-user productivity and AI-enabled SaaS spend; people-leader views of cost and usage by user; and an executive pack.  
• Implement dynamic row-level security so people leaders see only their own organization and divisional users see only their division, driven from the organizational hierarchy rather than hard-coded role membership.  
• Model a high-cardinality dimensional structure: publisher, model, model version, token type, token tier, deployment type, AppID, division, business unit, user, environment, audience, attribution level and cost basis.  
• Build the coverage reporting that is the program's primary health measure — a three-stage attribution cascade, plus the distribution of spend across attribution quality levels.  
• Implement incremental refresh, aggregations and performance tuning so reports stay responsive as history accumulates and caller-identity data multiplies row counts.  
• Work within the existing workspace structure, deployment pipelines, app audiences and source control conventions rather than introducing new ones.  
• Implement the UI Specialist's design direction consistently — navigation, filter behavior, drillthrough and themes.  

Essential skills and experience  

• Expert Power BI report development, including advanced DAX — calculation groups, time intelligence, and measures over role-playing and slowly changing dimensions.  
• Strong semantic model design: star schema, composite models, aggregation tables, relationship and cardinality management.  
• Demonstrable dynamic row-level security implementation in a live enterprise environment, ideally where the security boundary follows an organizational hierarchy.  
• Microsoft Fabric as a Power BI backend: lakehouse and warehouse items, Direct Lake semantic models, Fabric pipelines, capacity management and workspace administration.  
• Power BI apps, audiences, deployment pipelines and Git integration for report and model lifecycle management.  
• Performance tuning with tools such as DAX Studio, Tabular Editor and the Best Practice Analyzer.  
• Comfortable consuming Databricks datasets and agreeing a gold layer contract with engineering rather than building transformations in Power Query.  
• Able to adopt an existing team's conventions quickly and work in parallel on a shared estate without divergence.  

Desirable  

• Exposure to FinOps or cloud cost reporting, and to the FOCUS billing specification.  
• Paginated reports for finance-facing outputs such as chargeback statements.  
• Experience where reporting carried individual-level data and privacy constraints shaped the design.
